Issues when using "Network Service" as Log on Account for HT Transport Service and CAS RPC Client Access Service

Hello,

we deployed Exchange 2010 side by side to Exchange 2003 and want to migrate all users. We got some strange errors.

The Intra-Exchange message flow wasn't working till we changed the log on account for the Transport Service on both HT servers to "Local System" instead of "Network Service".

Outlook 2003 and 2010 users couldn't open their mailboxes on Exchange 2010. They receivied the error the server is not available, can not open default your default email folders, the information store could not be opened, etc.). OWA was working well. We switched the Log on Account to "Local system" for RPC Client Access Service on both CAS and Outlook connectionsimmediately worked.

It seems that "Network Service" is somewhere limited in the way it authenticates to the mailbox servers.

Anybody got an idea?

PrepareAD, Domain, Forest, Schema Prep worked like a charm. Best practice analyzer showed nothing realted to this. Inheritance is activated on all servers objects.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
